REMOTE RECORDING

Great music is made through great collaboration.

Nowadays thanks to the internet this means you don't even have to be in the same room.

If you are interested in hearing live drums on your track/s read more below.

OVERVIEW

OVERVIEW

I'm aware that many people haven't tried or heard about remote recording before, therefore I wanted to explain in a little detail what it's all about and perhaps why it's becoming so popular with todays artists and composers.

What is Remote Recording?

Remote recording is fast becoming the industry standard. Thanks to modern technology, musicians worldwide can collaborate seamlessly, and get studio quality results for cheaper than ever.

How Long Does It take?

One of the best parts about remote recording is that it can take as much or as little time as you want. Compared to the normal stress of arranging studios and musicians remote collaborations can take place quickly within a few days or over longer periods.

Why is Remote Recording good?

Studio time can be expensive, which can hold up the production of new material. Remote recording allows you to get high quality recording on a smaller budget. You pay for one persons time and thats it.

Why Record Drums?

Drums are often referred to as the foundation for a song. A solid drum beat with good sound can really elevate a composition and add a production value that, in my opinion, you simply can't replicate with sampling.  To try out my service for free and hear for yourself check out my introductory offer below.

AUDIO & VIDEO

AUDIO & VIDEO

I've compiled some recordings below that I've made in my studio for past clients.

If you would like to hear any clean stems or more content from me please feel free to get in touch via email.

Here is a playlist of songs that I have played on in the past that weren't recorded by me, but showcase my playing.

The following video provides some examples of the results I've been getting from my current setup, across my different drum kits.

"I enlisted Keir for a remote drum session based on a recommendation. I was blown away with what he sent me. Keir captured the vibe of the song perfectly, adding a really musical foundation for the track to blossom over. I would not hesitate to use Keir again. Thank you Keir!"

ABOUT ME

ABOUT ME

In my opinion one of the most important parts of remote recording is that you understand the person you are collaborating with and what they are able to offer you & your music.

With that in mind I wanted to outline some of my musical strengths and why I may be the right choice for your music.

Styles & Strengths

ROCK

For many years I've played in rock and indie bands both when I was growing up and then into my professional career as well. Through that time I was hugely inspired by drummers such as John Bonham (Led Zeppelin), Dave Grohl (Nirvana) and Dominic Howard (Muse). These guys along with others gave me a passion for simplicity in groove with complexity in composition; basically big and bold but with creative ideas, something that I draw upon in everything I play.

FUNK

Whilst studying a music diploma I became obsessed with legendary funk drummers such as Jabo Starks & Clyde Subblefield (James Browns legendary drummers) as well as Zigaboo Modeliste (The Meters) and more modern funk drummers like Adam Deitch (Lettuce). This helped me to develop a control and touch that brings an emphasis on making the music flow, without ever compromising on groove.

JAZZ & ELECTRONIC

During my degree at BIMM London I fell in love with hip hop production which led me into jazz music and introduced me to legends such as Brian Blade, Max Roach and Elvin Jones. From there I got hooked into modern jazz drummers such as Mark Guiliana, Eric Harland and Robert Sput Searight, who introduced me to a fusion of sound which broke the traditional concepts of style and approach I had previously known. Their use of electronics or the attempt to replicate electronic sound captivated me. I have since that day aspired to bring electronic sound and production to the drum kit whilst maintaining a musicality and improvisational touch more similar to jazz music.

POP & GROOVE

Some of my favourite recordings feature some incredible session musicians who have played on some inspirational records. Guys such as Nate Smith, Steve Gadd, Vinnie Colaiuta, JR Robinson, Ash Soan, Neal Wilkinson and Steve Jordan. In my opinion these drummers epitomise what it means to be a great musician. They are versatile beyond a shadow of a doubt with a groove and creativity that is undeniable, which is something that I strive for everyday through my practice and performance.

I would define these styles as my strengths. However I'm always passionate about pushing my boundaries and developing something new. If you have music that perhaps doesn't fit into those styles but would like me to be involved I'm always happy to learn and offer what I can, even if that means recommending someone else.

I would always want you to get the best results for your music.

If you would like more info on me and what I've done you can read more on my bio page.

"Keir is a terrific drummer, capable engineer, and very good at working collaboratively to bring out what is best for the song or project you are working on."

PROCESS

THE PROCESS

CONTACT ME

It all begins with a quick chat, tell me about your music and the song you want to record. We can discuss style, drum sounds & even mic placements. Its also at this point we will discuss pricing and delivery times/targets.

TAKE 1

You send me the track/s either as stems or a mixed stereo bounce, with any reference drums separate, no deposit or anything necessary at this time. I will do my first take on the track and send you a rough stereo mix within an agreed time.

REVISIONS

Now we can begin the recall stage. Its at this point that we have a further in depth conversation about the recording so far and any changes you would like to make. After which I'll take another pass at the song and send it over to you, again as a mixed bounce. We can then repeat this process until you are happy.

SEND IT

Finally the last step takes place only once you are 100% satisfied with the track you have heard. At this point I will send the final invoice and once payment has been received I will upload the finished product to an online sever where you will be free to access all stems and takes at full WAV quality.

INTRODUCTORY OFFER

It can be daunting to trust someone you've never met. So I wanted to offer something that lets you have a preview of my playing for FREE.

Want to know more? Read below.

Marble-Negro-Levantine-Polished-L.jpg

For any new clients I’m pleased to give an introductory offer of a free Test Recording to the length of 1 minute sent as a stereo mix, completely free.

I wanted to offer this as I know that a lot of people are unsure of whether a remote session musician is the right move for their music. Therefore with this test recording you can get an idea of what you will receive as a final product and if it's something you like, that's great and we can discuss taking it further. If not then that's also totally fine.

At the end of the day I want you to get what you want and what's right for your music.
